Chinese Culture University recently initiated its rooftop photovoltaic power station. It is estimated that it can generate 1,000 megawatts. It is arguably the biggest energy plant not owned by the government. The electricity generated is to power the neighborhood, and the money generated will be used to fund the disadvantaged students.

Situated in the YangMing Mountain, Chinese Culture University is at the advantage of developing solar energy. Four years ago, the school has implemented the project, The New Prospects of Civil Power Plant and Green Energy on the Yang-Ming Mountain. The ribbon-cutting ceremony was broadcast live online in line with the anti-pandemic measures for the COVID-19 pandemic. Dr. Shing-Ching Shyu, President of Chinese Culture University, pointed out that the success to power plan was the effort of the faculty and students engaged in their education and put what they have learned into practice.

Deputy Chief Executive of the Office of Energy and Carbon Reduction, Executive Yuan, Tzu-Lun Lin praised the university for its achievement. He said that to promote energy, we need not only the government, enterprises but also the educational institutes to play a key role.

Chairman Eugene Chien Y. H of the Taiwan Institute for Sustainable Energy (TAISE) also participated in the online ceremony. He pointed out that as the first civil power plant started running, more and green energy will be developed in more communities, and this is all thanks to the effort of Chinese Culture University. The project initiated by the university, which is to create and share the profit and benefits of renewable energy, will inspire more people to follow.

In the online ceremony, the Director-general Hui-Ming Hsu of the SGECCoop handed over a check of NT$45,390 for the first term of the electricity bill to President Shyu, who is to use the money to fund the disadvantaged students. In the near future, the university will keep working on the project and complete the second term by installing solar panels on Da Ya and Da Lun buildings.
