CCU Instructional Modes & Course Modalities: Fall Semester, Academic Year 2021-2022

1. For this Fall Semester, Chinese Culture University is offering primarily in-person course options for students. However, to lower the risk of infection, part of the courses will be conducted with mixed (online and in-person course) course modes or remote instruction.
2. In-person courses are for:  classes with fewer than 80 students, and the classroom is at 60% capacity or less. Example: 48 students are taking the class, and the classroom could accommodate at least 80 students.

3. Mixed (online and in-person course) course modes or online courses:

• If there are more than 80 students taking the class (self-training physical education classes/ PE07 excluded), teachers should offer remote instruction.
• If there are fewer than 80 students taking the class, but the classroom is at more than 60% of capacity, teachers should offer mixed (in-person and online classes) course modes. Example: 70 students are taking the class, but the classroom has only 100 seats.
• For classes conducted in poorly ventilated classrooms or a classroom without windows, teachers should offer remote instruction.

4. Instructional Modes:

• Remote instruction: students do not come to school for classes and take online courses.
• Mixed: in-person class meetings and online learning. Students come to school for in-person meetings in the scheduled weeks and take the online course every other week. The weekly schedules are based on the student number. Examples are as follows:

• In in-person class meetings, checkboard and assigned seating must be adopted. Students and teachers are advised to keep social distance and wear a mask at all times. Teachers should record students’ actual presence. No food and drinks should be allowed in class, and keep the classroom well-ventilated and disinfected.
• Department of Academic Affairs will post details of instructional mode & course modalities online on September 15. Please take note of the latest announcements. Class schedules will be adjusted according to class selection for the first and second stages.

5. Others

(1) In case of a special need, teachers could apply for a change in the instructional modes with the signed agreement from all the students taking the course.

(2) Teachers of lab classes could choose to offer remote instruction or blended course modalities.

(3) Physical Education classes must be conducted according to the guidelines of the Central Epidemic Command Center.

(4) Occupational Ethics and speeches held by departments could be conducted via video conferencing or with blended modalities according to the capacity of the classrooms.

6. All teachers need to come to school for in-person class meetings and online courses while students adopt different course modalities as scheduled. Teachers must explain the instructional modes and modalities to students and announce their schedules on the school course system.
7. To ensure teaching quality and reasonable learning evaluation, instructors must keep track of students’ attendance and performance. The flexible performance assessment standard must be posted on the school course system.
8. Students or teachers are eligible for quarantine leaves if they need to visit the doctor, conduct quarantine, isolation, or self-health management, delay their return due to COVID-19, or approved by the school’s COVID-19 command center. Such people need to complete the procedures according to Guidelines for Cloud-based Learning of Chinese Culture University regarding Novel Coronavirus Outbreak (Attachment 1). Teachers need to upload their teaching materials to the school course system and adopt synchronous or asynchronous instruction.
9. CCU’s anti-COVID-19 measures will be updated according to the policies of CECC and the Ministry of Education.
