中國文化大學徐興慶校長,17日在日本駐台代表泉裕泰官邸,接受日本政府頒令和三年「外務大臣表彰」。徐興慶校長表示,「這項榮譽屬於眾人所有,未來將持續為提升台日關係、深化日本研究,奉獻綿薄之力。」
兩年前獲頒日本旭日章小綬章獎的文化大學彭誠浩董事,今天也應邀出席表彰典禮,他肯定徐興慶校長努力治學表現,以及對培育知日人才做出的貢獻。
日本台灣交流協會表示,日本外務大臣表彰,是由外務大臣表揚對於增進日本友好親善關係具有貢獻的個人及團體。台灣今年除了徐興慶校長獲個人表彰,在台規模最大的日僑團體之一「居留問題研究會」也獲得團體表彰。
日本台灣交流協會指出,徐興慶校長自1992年獲得日本九州大學博士學位後,一直以來對於強化並推動日本研究貢獻極大。台灣的日語教育原本就很盛行,徐興慶校長則是更進一步強力推動廣泛的整體研究。
徐校長擔任台灣大學日文系教授期間,設立日本研究中心,擔任首任中心主任,發表專書著作;2018年擔任中國文化大學校長,除設立日本研究中心,並成立東亞人文社會科學研究院,多次舉辦大型研討會,長年致力台灣與東亞各國的日本研究,對培育台灣之知日派人士貢獻卓著,此次獲外務大臣表彰個人獎項實至名歸。
President Shing-Ching Shyu of Chinese Culture University was awarded the Foreign Minister’s Commendations for FY 2021 at the Japan–Taiwan Exchange Association Thursday (November 17). President Shyu said, “this honor should go to all the people engaged in promoting Japan Taiwan relation and those who put their effort in Japanese Studies.”
According to the Japan–Taiwan Exchange Association, the Foreign Minister’s Commendations are awarded to individuals and groups with outstanding achievements in international fields, in order to acknowledge their contributions to the promotion of friendship between Japan and other countries and areas. President Shyu won the award for individual outstanding achievement while Study Group on Japanese Residency Affairs in Taiwan was awarded for its group effort.
The association pointed out that President Shyu has been promoting Japanese studies ever since he obtained his Ph.D. degree from Kyushu University, 1992. Japanese language learning has been welcome in Taiwan; President Shyu’s work provides support that extends the growing body of research on the Japanese language and culture.
When President Shyu was working at National Taiwan University, he set up the Japanese Studies Center and served as the first director. Since beginning as president of CCU, he established the Japanese Studies Center and the Institute of East Asian Humanities and Social Sciences. He hosted a great many international conferences to promote Japanese Studies along with scholars from Taiwan and Asian countries. President Shyu absolutely deserves the award.
President Shyu attributed his achievement in his studies to people who put their effort into the field. With the result of the predecessors, colleagues, and experts in the academia, and assistance from organizations such as the Japan–Taiwan Exchange Association. President Shyu said he saw this award as an encouragement and recognition of his long-lasting academic work.
